Smallwood Street, Redditch

Planning permission granted for the conversion and extension of an office and warehouse structure to create 9 No. apartments and retain a small office space.

Working with Kjokken Limited Architects, Stansgate were able to secure planning permission for the conversion and extension of an existing building near to the centre of Redditch to create 9 No. apartments and a new office space. An existing warehouse area to the rear of the site is to be removed and a new double storey extension created to enable increased sized units, the means of access into the building and corridor space, to what was otherwise a very narrow building.

The development is located in a highly sustainable location and has been approved as a ‘car free’ development, which providing on-site secure cycle storage. The Council agreed that the underused office and warehouse accommodation did not result in the most efficient use of the site, and that residential apartments here with a smaller retained office space, were acceptable.

The development includes a small, landscaped courtyard space for residents, and provides a separate access into the office unit. The external alterations approved will give the building a more contemporary appearance, whilst also including solar photovoltaic panels for energy generation.
